Parents spring rapist son from Swedish courtroomParents spring rapist son from Swedish courtroom
An 18 year old convicted rapist was aided by his parents as he slipped away from his guards at the Sundsvall appeals court on Tuesday. News agency TT reported that the man, along with a 17 year old who has a record of serious assault, attempted to sneak away from his prison officers. They stopped him in the courthouse reception, but at that point parents and friends stepped in, "punching and kicking" the guards. In the chaos, the two troublemakers did a runner. They are currently on the run but the parents have been arrested and are now facing charges of aiding an escape and violence against prison officers.
I don't know the ethnic background of the rapist, as Swedish media usually don't tell this. But it is possible to speculate, of course. The case reminded me of a previous incident in Denmark:
Police beat hasty retreat
Six police officers who were summoned to the suburb of Vollsmose in Odense were forced to flee after receiving death threats from a crowd of around 100 second generation immigrants. The police were summoned when three young immigrants attempted to kick their way into the apartment of a family whose 12 year-old son had testified against the three in a rape case. When the police attempted to arrest the three offenders, news spread and a 100-strong gang quickly gathered outside, threatening the police that they would not be allowed out alive if arrests were made. The officers heeded the warning and fled, managing to take the threatened family with them. Authorities in Odense are now fearing that Vollsmose is in danger of becoming a 'no-go area' for police.
