Islamic Schools in the Balkans

With September comes the preparation of millions of students all over the world to return to school. Among these are the thousands of students of Islamic schools in the Balkans, the number of which is estimated at 10 thousand students, in addition to thousands of pupils at state schools, learning circles and the councils for memorization of The Holy Quran. Muharram Omardic, responsible for the Islamic schools affiliated to the Islamic Authority in Bosnia, emphasizes to Asharq Al-Awsat, "During the communist era, only 10 people in Bosnia knew the Qur'an off by heart. Today, we have 160 hafids (memorizers of the Holy Qur'an), and this number will increase in the future. We have eight Islamic secondary schools, six of which are in Bosnia, one in Croatia, and another in Sinj.

Nato commander in Bosnia warns again terrorists

Commander of Nato forces in Bosnia General Louise Weber said Saturday there were 10 activists who belonged to "Islamic terrorist organizations" living in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Weber, quoted by the Sarajevo radio, said the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (Nato) forces were closely following these activists. He said the 10 activists were "a sleeping cell," which would awaken when it is needed. Nato forces here cracked down on dozens of Islamic charity offices in Bosnia and seized many documents thus triggering their closure because many of these offices were involved in illegal acts.

Al Qaeda Money-Laundering on the Balkans

According to experts, Al Qaeda makes USD 8 Billion profit per year from the sale of drugs, the Macedonian daily Dnevnik announced, citing an analysis of the Serbian agency FoNet. Part of these funds remain in some ten banks and financial institutions on the Balkans, in Albania and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Al Qaeda has used different organizations for money laundering. Then the money were allotted to its cells in Albania and Bosnia. Al Qaeda has penetrated in Albania in 1994 with the help of the country’s Government at the time. According to information of the intelligence services, the leaders of the Islamist Extremist organization have decided to turn Bosnia into an assembly point for terrorists, who would be transferred to Western Europe.
