Danish author Kåre Bluitgen had difficulties in getting artists to illustrate his book about Muhammad due to fear of reprisals from Islamic extremists. Jyllandsposten, Denmark's largest newspaper, responded by asking 40 illustrators to make drawings of Muhammad, and published twelve in this Saturday's edition. Not all of them were good, but here's the best one, made by Kurt Westergaard. Thanks to Danish blog Uriasposten for the link.

Another Theo van Gogh would probably cement the Danish impression of Muslims as savages, and lead to pressures for them to leave. Attacking the artist would be one of the most self-defeating things they could do.
I would like to point out that this image looks like (to my eyes) a Hindu Rajput MahaRaja.
Contrary to popular perception in the West - turbans are worn only by people from the Indian subcontinent (to the best of my knowledge - please correct me if I am wrong), each subgroup had different types of turbans - the mustache is also a mustache that looks like a "hindu type". Some Muslims in the Indian subcontinent would wear it more as a residue of their past Hindu culture.
The Muslims wear skull caps (like Jewish ones) except that they are white in color.
The typical Muslim look is a long unkempt beard with a bald head and no mustache. Also they wear the caps you see on Afghans or the headwear of Arabs. The Iranian turban worn by Mullahs is also a typical one which can be easily made out.
Of course I am talking about stereotypes and individuals are unique etc. etc.
I am NOT taking any offense in any way - it is just fun and a nice way to needle some group ;) - just trying to set the record straight.

Yeah, it does look more like a Hindu, and we shouldn't insult those good people by having a picture of that scumbag look like one of them. But the bomb on top of the head is very apropos. He must have blown his brains out to come up with such an insane concept as Islam.
Looks to me more like a Sikh than a muslim but the fizzing bomb is a nice touch.
Something I haven't yet seen mentioned in the MSM is that the London-based Irish artist/gay activist Billy Quinn has been forced into hiding because of death threats from muslims who took offence at some images on his website. There are a couple of Mapplethorpe-like extreme gay images on the site but I don't know if that's what got them riled or something more specifically related to their religion. Most likely the latter.

Well i have a cartoon of a christian priest raping small children but my point is not proven this way and the fact is that is going on for ages in europe and elsewhere... does it really show how great i am or my work is-- when i mock preists or any church or a group..!!! What you see in Bin Ladin is NOT Islam.. some people are ignorant and uneducated so they need to study about the prophet Muhammad "first" before mockering any prophet.. We respect Jesus because he was a holy prophet to us. Educated people are embracing Islam everyday all over the world and they are learning from the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. I don't know what thing in Islam attracted this guy to switch over to Islam from Christianity. I have studied quran. I have also studied sayings of Muhammad from written in "Sahih Bokhari". Sahih Bokhari is considered the most authentic book after Quran. One can find different sayings of Muhammad on one topic. There is difference in the saying of prayers, there is difference in the time of call for prayers, there is difference in the contents of prayers, there is difference in the preformance of prayers, there is difference in terms of respect of the elders of Islam. By the way, what type of Islam this guy has accepted: Suuni, Wahabi, Shiite, Ismaili, Burhani, Ahl-e-Hatith, Tableeghi,and so on.
Anarchism doesn't differ in any terms if its a belief or if its an act. There was anarchism all over Europe in the 18th and 19th century when there were bombings of all sorts because of anarchist belief. Then it was not called terrorism and it was only anarchism.
Now we have terrorism. However, the two have one thing in common. It is a reaction of suppression.
First of all, a guy who can think can easily understand that Muslim is only a cover that terrorism uses. It would be so easy to find out that 1 in 500.000 is a terrorist in Muslim, but seeing only the surface of the iceberg is easier then looking below the water. Thats what most people do and thats what it can be read here as well.
In terms of statistics, if we are dreaming of a peaceful world, then we all should become buddhists. Statistically, they have the lowest crime rate. They are not racist in terms of skin color, belief or religion.
Terrorism is a way of thinking and acting. Therefore the pros and cons should be well evaluated in order to understand what is what and why. Muslim says that a person who ever takes a life for whatever reason is involved in the greatest sin. So how in the world can we really believe that a terrorist of any kind would have a belief in God. They live in a world of lies and deceit. Therefore before we talk and make stupid or rather unnecessary remarks, we should review and analyse. Knowledge is the way to real truth, what you see and hear from the TV is for dummies.
Apart from the fact that this cartoon is laughably inaccurate, it also seems to have given rise to several ignorant comments. Which is not surprising: an ignorant piece of art can only give rise to ignorant thinking and ignorant comments. If you will trouble yourselves to turn off your TV and look beyond your white ethnocentrist walls, you will see that Islam is here to stay, no matter what you puny people have to say about it. Islam is much bigger than one person, one country, or one comment. Islam is much more than Bin Laden, Afghanistan, or your ignorant slander.

hello, i just want to add my comment! i am a muslim, and i want to tell you that Islam which is an arabic word meaning PEACE! as there is in any place in the world, there are terrorists, and unfortunatelly, most of them say they are muslims, but actually they are not, because in our religion, it is forbidden to kill or terrify any one! so how come they say they are muslims?!!

Well, I've read most of the posts and I wonder what do the people attacking Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) have against the man! What in his biography has offended them? Or have they really bothered to look into his biography? Was it because he was the messenger who spread Islam among people? Do you really know anything about Islam? I mean, other than from what you are fed by biased media?
The real Islam is a religion of justice, peace, equality, and many other humane notions and practices.. Please spare some time to investigate about it from reliable sources or if you don't have such time.. don't just criticize and even attack it based on what others believe or want you to believe.
For the gentleman/ lady who said there are contradictions in Islam's teachings I would ask them to cite some examples. There are no contradictions in Qur'an, hadith or teachings, although there might seem to be on the surface, but when you get the right meanings you will find everything coherent and homogeneous. Islam is a religion of logic and common sense and it has all the answers. I would have cited an example about how things might seem contradictory while in fact they are not, but that will prolong my post which has already become longer than I planned. You can e-mail me at any time if you need any clarifications.
Finally, for the gentleman / lady who said Muslims do not contribute to science and technology researches I would say that we in the Muslim world have only became so inert when we deviated from the teachings of Islam. If you have a look at history of Islam in its early ages, when people were living according to the teachings of Islam you will find astonishing accomplishments in various branches of science, knowledge and philosophy. Books written by Muslim scientists were taught in western universities for hundreds of years.
Sorry for the long post, but the prejudice against my religion and my prophet hurts.

From what I know about this man, If the prophet Mohammed (PBUH) was here, he wouldn't have insulted any of you this way. He would have asked you about the source of your anger and he would have looked for a real solution instead of giving a new source of hate and making more people ill with revenge attitude. And when the prophet have been insulted from his family he prayed for them and when someone pulled his cloth from back till it wounded his neck he paryed for him to be cured from hate, and when someone was going after him at " Ka'baa " (the God's holy house for people ) to kill him, prophet Mohammed put his hand on his cheast and prayed for him to be set free from hate and the man died defending what he have learnt for Allah a long time after that.
I am sure you don't know a lot about this man and that is why you are talking this way. What I will ask now is so reasonable.. please, visit : and read about this man and then judge those who make those crimes at your country.. if they are really muslims or not? and also judge what have you said about someone you don't know about him. May the truth of every man on earth be revealed to reality to release facts free.
and a general fact of learning :
"read, understand and get knowledge from those who have it."
Any offensive knowledge in any direction, for sure, is not reality.

I am working in have been enpowered by my father and will be enpowered by me .. and I have been working in a lot of technical hi tech projects and I served your country honestly and I will, becuase I have learnt from the prophet Mohammed, that you are insulting, not to petrade and as he said "If any of you did a job, do it well" and that is what I will do inspite of all that, May be one day we all see the truth and have a peace of mind and attitude.
